The Batman (2022) Movie Review
“Fear is a tool. When that light hits the sky, it’s not just a call. It’s a warning.”
Batman
Let’s review ‘The Batman.’ Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character, this is a retelling of DC’s most beloved character who is also probably also one of fiction’s most iconic. So let’s begin.

This film, unlike Nolan’s ‘Batman Begins’, dosen’t go into the origins of the Dark Knight. Instead. it’s centered around how Bruce Wayne, in his second year of vigilantism, is navigating the dark city of Gotham, in the wake of a mysterious and dangerous foe. Batman hasn’t yet perfected his craft and is very early in his crime fighting crusade. This is excellently depicted in the movie as a turmoil of emotions within Bruce Wayne, who struggles to not let his anger overpower him, and to not let his need for vengeance consume him. Batman is played by Robert Pattinson, who let me just tell you, kills it in this role. The villain, the Riddler, is played by Paul Dano who does a great job at creeping you out! ☠️ Other great performances in this movie are Zoe Kravitz who is remarkable as Cat-woman and also Colin Farrell who stole some of movie in his scenes as Penguin He is virtually unrecognizable with the prosthetic makeup on. Kudos to the makeup team for a solid job!

The film has a great story and is well paced. It dosen’t feel a bit like it’s 3 hour long runtime. And the visuals in this film are just stunning. Nearly every frame looks like it’s an art piece. Amazing cinematography and it’s crazy seeing how red and black are mostly the only colours used in the film. Michael Giacchino’s score is the cherry on top for this film. The score is almost haunting at times and accompanies this film really well.

All in all, ‘The Batman’ is a film for the ages. But before I conclude, let me share my own personal experience while watching this movie in the theatres. I was not terribly excited for this movie when it released. Part of the reason for that was because I feared I would not like this interpretation of Batman, which resulted due to the Zack Snyder films. Don’t get me wrong! I loved those movies, but I felt Affleck’s Batman was not the Batman I wanted to see on screen. Affleck’s Batman fit perfectly with the story Snyder was trying to tell but he just wasn’t what I liked you know? I went to see this film 4 days after initial release. And man, was I blown away. I remember telling my sister in the interval, “This is the best Batman of them all”, with a look of complete awe on my face, I imagine! 😂 I was so excited for the second half that I pushed past my sister on return to the theatre after collecting the snacks and she spilled some of the popcorn!

“It can be cruel, poetic or blind. But when its denied, it’s your violence you may find.”

The Batman is a masterpiece. There, I said it! For those of you who haven’t seen this film yet, what are you even doing?! Watch it as soon as possible. I guarantee you, it is an experience you will not soon forget!

10/10.
